The pokerroom at the Rio is over-hyped by the lure of the WSOP of poker. When the poker at the Rio is not being hosted in the infamous Amazon Room, it is being played at low to mid stakes in a 10 table room. To say the least, it is not what I expected. You won't find the Rio to be the home casino to any big names at the WSOP. The reason being is, the regular games at the Rio consist of a $2/$5NL game and a $4/$8FLH game. When I was there, they had exactly 1 $4/$8 table going and 1 $2/$5 table going. That leaves the managment with an 80% capacity vacancy. When I signed up for the $2/$5NL game I was name 23 on the list -humm... 8 available tables, dealers standing around doing nothing, but I am 23 up on the list? Confused, I asked, whom I presummed to be the room manager, why they did not start another table. They retorted the following: "We do not have the capacity..." Conclusion, with all the rooms in Vegas, I might explore options differing from the room at the Rio if they aren't playing poker in the Amazon Room.
